"Uncle Gordie" as I affectionately called him, my brother-in-law, was a true gentleman of many talents and experiences rarely shown, unless you opened the door through discussions, and then the words would flow. Over the years some memories bring me to tears of sorrow and tears of humour. During our introduction to our fishing adventures "Gordie" would often fish with only a weight on his line, but no bait, just to give the fish a chance rather than follow the rules of our teacher Al, our brother-in-law. "Gordie" would say "we could buy more fish at the store than we catch without harming anything". This was "Uncle Gordie" thinking of everyone and everything before himself. He was a true humanitarian and hopefully he will be fishing with the "Big Fisherman" Saint Peter, attempting to help others attain their just rewards.---------- Happy baitless fishing Gordie!
Many more humorous accounts of "Uncle Gordie" exist in our memories. We enjoyed countless holidays together over the years - from our sightseeing walks with Gordie saundering along behind us, to the time Ray coaxed him into buying a souvenir Arabian knife and he got stopped at customs with a dangerous weapon in his carry-on. We took his picture under a "most dangerous" sign holding the knife he never wanted to buy.
We are very sorry that we will not be able to say goodbye to you in person but please know that you will always be in our thoughts and prayers with much love.
Rest in peace "Uncle Gordie",
Ray and Arlene
