Obituary for Elizabeth "Liz" Gaynor

Elizabeth ‘ Liz ‘ Gaynor May 20 1931 – October 12 2020 in her 90th year.

It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Liz
after a brief hospitalization, in her 90th. year.

She is predeceased by her parents Tony & Doris, her brother Walter, sister Jean ( Oulton )
as well as nieces, nephews and family in the West.
Beloved wife of 61 years to Jim, loving mother to Craig ( Susan ) ,Kelly ( Brian St. Martin )
Treasured Nana to Ryan, Bryce & Ian Gaynor, Matthew and Megan St. Martin.
She also leaves behind her sister Helen Magalos.

Born Elizabeth Magalos in Dauphin Manitoba to Tony & Doris. Liz was raised on the
Canadian Prairies in the midst of drought and The Great Depression. Like many of her
era, a sense of resilience and independence was instilled at an early age, and remained
lifelong traits. Liz moved East in the 1950’s and settled in the busy and bustling
city of Hamilton. Liz soon found a job she loved, working with pride at ‘The American Can’
In fact she was a veritable Rosie-the-riveter. Nothing was too tough for her to do – and do well.
She might have remarked that she’d never win anything but in 1952 she won a brand new
Studebaker Champion car! She also won the heart of, and married a wonderful and caring
husband who would stand by her through all of life’s triumphs & challenges for over 61 years.
As much as she truly enjoyed her job, family came first. She was a wonderful, full time stay
at home Mom … taking pride in being home for her family. Her meals were legendary.
After raising her family Liz still had more ‘work’ left in her. She embarked on a change, and joined
her husband at Sears Canada ( Limeridge ) There she worked as a consultant in Mens’ wear for
over 20 years. She enjoyed meeting new people, and found her days fulfilling. We suspect that
had retirement not been mandatory Liz would have gladly put in a few more years …
Up until only a month ago Liz was fortunate enough to reside in her own cherished home of
over 52 years with an absolute minimum of outside help. She was truly blessed.

Sincere & heartfelt thanks go out to the wonderful and caring 3F staff at Juravinski.
Cremation, and a private family memorial has taken place.
