Obituary for George David Harris

Harris, George David

Suddenly and much too soon while 'on the road', George passed away on June 1, 2020 at only 68 years young. Much loved husband of Joanne (nee Dunkey) for 47years. Best Dad ever to Denise (Jones) and her husband Rob. Grandpa and buddy to Nathan and Logan. Brother to Valerie Harris. Brother (in-law) to Bette Kinnaird, Bob & Elaine Dunkey, Cathie & Steve Maillet. Entertaining Uncle and Great-Uncle.

He was generous, calm, patient, kind, funny, supportive, a leader. You could always count on George.

George loved adventure. Whether it was skiing, camping, canoeing, kayaking, or even wind-surfing, he did it with all his heart, and included anyone who wanted to join. When we hiked, he was the map-holder. When we were lost, it was his fault.....but we never got lost.

He loved to play baseball! He always gave 100% on the field and sparked many friendships over the years. He played men's ball in Burlington. He joined with Denise's co-ed team in Hamilton . He drove to Toronto each Sunday in recent years to play with his team of 'old guys' on Sons of Beaches. If you mentioned baseball, he was in! Anything for fun or challenge, he was in!

George was involved with Scouting from the time he was a child. From being a cub-scout to a Venturer Advisor, his passion for adventure and the outdoors has left incredible memories for so many. He has been an avid volunteer for countless years of events such as the Paris to Ancaster Bike Race and the Around the Bay Roadrace. His love for the Hamilton Bulldogs is well known. He has always been an enthusiastic fan since they began and his collection of jerseys is testament to that.

There are no words to describe our heartbreak. We feel empty and lost. But George lived his life to the fullest. No regrets. He wasn't out to impress anyone and that's why everyone loved him. He will forever live on in our hearts. Our memories will be cherished.
