With great sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of our mom and our friend on June 28, 2022. Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Gwen was in her 99th year. Beloved wife of the late Bernard (Ben) in 1990, and her dear daughter Susan in 2000. Gwen will be greatly missed by her children Loretta, Teresa (Joe), Barbara (the late Doug), and Paul (Dee). She loved and was proud of her grandchildren, Denise, Tracie, Emily, Hannah, Caroline, Harlan, Nathan and great grandchildren Tyler, Justin, Gryffin, Amelia, Elliott. She was also “Mommy Two” to family friend Helen. Gwen loved her nine siblings, Charles, Jean, Elizabeth, Esther, Audrey, Gerry, Shirley, Stanley and Robert and is reminiscing happily with them and their parents Emily Rose and Charles.
A long-time East Ender, mom was the mom on Cope Street, bandaging cuts and pulling teeth, giving advice and settling quarrels. To know our mother was to love her.
Gwen was a long-time member of Holy Family Church. She taught us patience, kindness and strength through her example. “I’ll find a way” was her attitude.
Thanks are offered to family, friends and Bayshore’s PSW’s who cared for mom and helped her to remain at home.
Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1919 King Street East on Sunday, July 3rd from 1-4pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Holy Family Parish on Monday, July 4th at 10am. Burial to take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a random act of kindness or donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
