John Duffy passed peacefully into eternal life, surrounded by the love of his children, on Sunday May 22, 2022, at Juravinski Hospital. John is reunited with his beloved wife, Marguerite (nee Ruetz -2014). John leaves behind his children James (Diane), Mary (Pete Tyldesley), Maureen (Gordon Wickens), Barbara (Chris Ryder), Ann Marie (Leon Ciobanca), and John, along with 18 grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Joseph, Scott, Michelle, Allison, Lisa, Ben, Christine, Kevin, Tara, Rhys, Eric, Jacob, Julia, Sam, Cowen, and Megan, and 5 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Isabelle, Austin, Rylie and Brooklyn. John is survived by his sister Margaret Bowman (Bob) and brother Matt. He is pre-deceased by brothers James (Jean), Bill (Florrie) and sisters Alice (Harry), Annie (Philip), and Ellen (Ownie). Survived by sister-in-laws Mary Nuernburger, Helene Ruetz, and Shirley Ruetz, as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and Scotland.

John immigrated to Canada on May 5, 1950, from Stoneyburn Scotland. He made Canada his home, becoming a citizen shortly after. Dad retired from Proctor and Gamble, and took up many interests in retirement. He became a hobby woodworker, joined Steeltown Toastmasters and sang in the Sts. Peter and Paul choir. John and Marguerite took some lovely vacations including Scotland, Florida, Bermuda, Eastern and Western Canada, Lourdes and Portugal. Dad was an avid reader, and loved listening to Classical music.

Dad was a devoted member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #5860. The family thank all of Dad’s regular visitors and neighbours for all the kindness they showed him.

He enjoyed each visit and home-cooked meal.

Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOMES, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (between Mohawk and Fennell) on Monday May 30, 2022, between 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m with Parish Prayers at 3:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian burial will take place at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 50 Brucedale Ave. Hamilton on Tuesday, May 31, at 10:00 am. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Shepherd or charity of one’s choice.
