Obituary for Michael Tyrer

Tyrer, R. Michael

Mike passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 19, 2023 in his 71st year. Loving husband of 46 years to Kathleen (nee Lilliman). Devoted father of Matthew(Erin) and Laura(Sean). Honoured grandpa of Wyatt, Mason, Mackenzie, and newest addition Charlie. Brother of David(Nancy) and brother-in-law of Jack(Judy), Cliff(Peg), Frank, Dennis(Geri), and Dave(Susan). He is predeceased by his parents John and Mildred Tyrer, and his mother and father-in-law, Kay and Frank Lilliman. Mike will be greatly missed by his family, friends, nieces, and nephews. Mike was always ready to take on adventure as we headed directly to The Pas, Manitoba after our wedding, where he started his career as a building inspector. He also worked with the Town of Vaughan before finally retiring from the City of Burlington where he worked for 27 years in the Building Department. Mike had many talents and hobbies. He was a talented musician. He played his guitar for his children from the time they were young. He especially enjoyed sharing music weekly with long-time friends. Mike was an incredible woodworker, building furniture and cabinetry and tackling many renovations. He was the one to go to whenever you needed to find out how to “fix it”. He will always be with us, as everywhere we look, we see something he has built or made for us. Mike was incredibly strong as he faced health challenges with determination and optimism. Mike was a strongly devoted husband and father and for him family always came first. Special thanks to the team at the Toronto General Hospital Lung Transplant program for their support over the past few years. A Memorial Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (Between Mohawk and Fennell) on Wednesday May 24, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation to UHN Lung Matching Foundation , or to a charity of your choice. In honour of Mike, please consider organ donation.
