Obituary for Miranda Romana Canella (nee Fiorino)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Miranda Romana Canella (nee Fiorino) on Ascension Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the Willowgrove Nursing Home in her 96th year. Beloved wife of Fausto, who passed away far too early in 1973, and predeceased by her granddaughter Laura, her daughter-in-law Piera, and siblings Nedda, Gastone and Walter. Loving mother of Louis (Georgina), Joseph (Michelle) and Mary (Scott). Dear Nonna of Miranda (Adam), David (Ines), Sara (Kevin), Bianca (Thatcher), Julia (Jamal) and Daniel, step grandmother to Andrea (Malcolm) and Deanna (Jeremy). Bisnonna of Madison, Mason, Emilia, Hugo, step-great-grandmother to Saige, Rhys, Mack, Ben, Ella, Abigail, Cecilia, and Isla. Survived by many nieces, nephews and other family in Canada and Italy. Miranda will be lovingly remembered for her faith, love and generosity, her strength and determination. Immigrating to Canada in 1956 to join her husband who had arrived a year earlier, she was the pillar of her family. Through the years, she advanced her position with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was recognized for the assistance she provided many Italian immigrants with their pensions at the Toronto Italian Consulate. She remained strongly connected to her family while posted in Rome and in Detroit, later in her career. At the same time, following her passion, she has been a role model for the excellent cooks in the family. At peace after battling Alzheimer’s Disease for many years, she will be sorely missed.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be offered at the Our Lady of Lourdes campus of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, 416 Mohawk Rd E, Hamilton, on Saturday, June 4th at 9:00 am. Burial and a celebration of life will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto at a later date. Many thanks to the staff at Willowgrove Nursing Home, whose thoughtful and compassionate care is most appreciated. As an expression of sympathy, if you wish, you may honour Miranda’s memory by a donation to the charity of your choice.
