Obituary for Omer Benedict Le Brow

Le Brow, (Ben) Omer Benedict

It is with great sadness that we announce that Ben Le Brow passed peacefully, with family at his side, into the hands of God on December 21st, 2022, at the age of 99. Beloved husband of the late Bernadette (nee Cormier).

He will be eternally loved and missed by his children Theresa (Gord), Brian (Laurie), and Linda; grandchildren Jeff, Christopher, Sarah, Robert, Jessica, Amanda, Lindsay, Melanie; and great-grandchildren Avia, John, Evelyn, Delina, and Maisy. Endearingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbours.
To Ben, family was paramount. He marvelled at the technology he was able to use to keep in touch with his family around the world. He had a sharp wit and sense of humour. Ben enjoyed watching sports and keeping up with current events, but gardening was his greatest passion. His family carries many fond memories of fresh tomatoes, garlic, and blackberries. He won the Trillium Awards Program, formally called The Hamilton Beautification Awards Program many times over the years, for his exquisite garden of roses and geraniums.

A veteran, Ben dutifully served his country from 1941 to 1945 as an aircraft mechanic. He would regale family with many memories. He was a long-time employee of Westinghouse Canada. He took pride in his work and never turned down an extra shift. Summers were spent vacationing at Sauble Beach, then Port Dover, near the town of Simcoe, where many lifelong friendships were forged.

Special thanks to the staff at the Village of Winston Park (Kitchener), for their kind and compassionate care; Julianna Miles (posthumous) for her many years of in-home care; and all Ben’s neighbours who helped him to stay in his home, as was his deepest wish, until this past spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) in memory of Ben Le Brow. Donations can be made directly at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Ave, Hamilton, L8V 4K4 or to VAC. Online condolences can be made to www.dermodys.com

The family will hold a private funeral mass and Celebration of Life at a later date.
