Pre-deceased by his loving parents, Audrey (Shreenan) and Jerry Matters, his brother-in-law, Ronald Epping, and his mother-in-law, Reta Lienhardt. He is sadly missed by his loving wife, Joanne (Lienhardt) Matters, with whom he celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary on September 18, 2022. Loving father of Christopher (Heather), Theresa, and Jordan (Kerry). Dear Grandpa of Trinity, Joseph, James, Chase, Dax and Lila. He has also left behind his brother, Kevin Matters (Michelle), sister, Sandra (Matters) Epping and nieces and nephews, Kendra, Connor, Maggie, Melanie, Mark, Jennette, and Candace.

A successful high-level executive within a worldwide company, Randy implemented his character traits of wisdom, respect, patience, negotiation skills and kindness, while not shying away from sharing his faith. Ordained to the Diaconate within the Catholic Diocese of Hamilton on June 10, 2006, Deacon Randy has had the opportunity to minister within the Catholic communities of St. Paul the Apostle and St. Gabriel Catholic Churches within Burlington, and, most recently, at Regina Mundi Catholic Church in Hamilton.

During his Diaconate formation, Randy felt called to open Shifra Homes, a safe haven for young pregnant women. Randy has been a dedicated fan of the Montreal Canadiens. His sense for adventures led him to completing challenges that included a Half Ironman in Montreal and the Camino pilgrimage. He will be greatly missed by his dear family, friends, parishioners, those for whom he provided spiritual direction and all who got to know the faith, hope and love that permeated Deacon Randy.
