Obituary for Reg Sullivan

With gratitude for a life well lived, our dear dad passed away with his family by his side, in the comfort and care of Emmanuel House Hospice on February 28, 2023, at the age of 86. Dear dad of Candy Piva (Mike), Tracey Pecyna (Ed), and Steve (Natalie). Loving Grampa of Eddy (Lindsay), Chris (Mindy), Brian, Natalie, Angela, Lindsay, Ryan, and Great Grampa of Aislyn, Nate, and Brayden. He is survived by his oldest sister Phoebe and his sister-in-law Marg and predeceased by his siblings Anna (Harold), Joe (Tina), Leo (Kaye), and Jack. “Uncle Reg” to many nieces and nephews with memories of laughter and fun while in his company.

Dad will be fondly remembered for his warm and kind smiling face, sharing his memories of his early years in New Brunswick like the one about Lawrence Campbell the postman, who delivered the mail without ever learning how to read or write; about grocery store owner Vezee Price in Perth, who delivered the news about the 5 soldiers that died in one week in WWII. Dad sold his ‘57 Chevy to start a partnership with his brother-in-law Marv, where they worked tirelessly for 40-plus years to provide for their families. Marv & Reg’s Used Car Sales appreciated their loyal customers. He will be fondly remembered by many at the Gage & Fennell Tim’s where the coffee and conversation were always flowing. Dad so loved the Blue Jays especially when they won the World Series back-to-back. Dad instilled in us his love for animals, especially birds, horses, and dogs. Grampa took a special interest in all his grandchildren’s lives and was truly proud of all of them.

Special thank you to all staff at Juravinski Hospital and the LHIN program for providing care during his last year. A special thank you to Chartwell Deerview Crossing where dad enjoyed his last year with his special companion Joy Ann, who appreciated dad’s sense of humour and accompanied him on long walks, and fellow residents for chit chats and entertainment at the bistro. Thank you to all the managers, nurses, PSWs, hospitality, and Dr. Yazdanian for providing exceptional care. Thank you to Dr. Hamboyan for providing compassionate palliative care for Reg from Chartwell to Emmanuel House Hospice.

Sincere gratitude for Emmanuel House Hospice, from the time we arrived till the time of his passing, our whole family felt the love and compassion from the nurses, PSWs, and staff that tended to dad’s, and our needs with empathy and boundless energy.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (between Mohawk and Fennell) on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 12-4 pm. A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Emmanuel House Hospice or the Chartwell Foundation – Making Seniors Dreams come true.

Always use the good stuff.
