Obituary for Richard James Jones

Richard James Jones
July 16, 1949 – September 12, 2023

After a short and fierce battle with Frontotemporal Dementia, we lost our father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, Richard.

Richard is survived by his wife of 50 yrs, Marie (nee Mckinnon), as well as his sons Robert (Denise) and Jason (Liza). Richard's daughter Elissa predeceased him by only a couple months, and he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Nathan, Logan, Ella and Evan.

Richard began his career in the auto glass industry with Standard Auto Glass but soon after that he owned his own franchise of Apple Auto Glass with his sons by his side. When I tell you that this man knew how to clean a window, I mean that he could clean any glass surface like no other! A trait he passed on to his children, whose friends still marvel at the skill. And without Richard, we'd never know how many uses there is for urethane auto adhesive.

Richard was a hard worker and loved to keep busy. He was one of the handiest men around, from full-on home renovations to basic home repairs, to gardens or cars. If something needing fixing, everyone would call Richard.

Family was important to Richard. He provided so many life lessons to his kids and supported them in everything they did. It's not a rare moment for his kids to talk about how their father taught them this or taught them that. How their father was always there to cheer them on or be hard on them when they needed it. Richard was always there for all his grandkids' events, whether he understood the sport or not.

Richard was a fantastic host. While he enjoyed sitting and chatting with his family and friends, he also enjoyed ensuring that everyone had what they needed. He would fill the ladies' wine, keep a beer in hands of the boys', ensure the grandkids had their tv show or toys, and even take the dogs for a walk and he did it all with a smile on his face.

His absence leaves a hole in so many people's lives.

Friends will be received at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (between Mohawk and Fennell) on Saturday December 2, 2023 from 11 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Reception to follow (with "funeral sandwiches", as these were one of Richard's favorites!)
