Obituary for Winifred "Winnie" Capriotti (Hodgson)

Capriotti, Winifred “Winnie” (nee Hodgson)

The gates of heaven have opened wide to welcome your faithful servant Winifred “Winnie” Capriotti at 79 years of age. She passed away peacefully at St Joseph’s Hospital on New Year’s Day, 2021 at 8pm. Winnie leaves behind her three Children Teresa, Joseph and Michelle and joins her Mother Joan and father James Hodgson and younger brother Bernie in God`s arms. Also, she leaves behind her younger brother Joseph Hodgson. Winnie deeply loved and cherished her grandchildren, Rachel, Holly, Jonah, Max, Portia, Mason and Ella and great grandchildren Jack, Loni and Isla. They will miss her beyond all measure.

Winnie was truly a servant of God and led her life in the faithful service of caring for others. Over her 50 years of professional life her only focus was the preservation of the family unit. She was the Director of Hope Haven Homes a home for the abused families and more recently ran Family Life Line counselling using the family binders program which helped more than 20,000 individuals in the Hamilton area. Her life and work is a legacy of her stout devotion and spirituality. She loved everyone without judgment, she lived to serve and care for humanity. Winnie was respected as a true pioneer in the field of social work and was willing to contribute in any capacity. Winnie was a member of the Women Who Excel and was a gifted public speaker. She was devout Catholic and was a member of the St Margaret Mary parish as well as the Catholic Women`s League. Additionally, she was a leader in the charismatic movement. Winnie was a lifelong learner and researched anything that involved addictions and methods of reconciliation of the family. Also, she was an advocate of the Al-Anon program and was an active member. Winnie was a testament to living “One day at a time” and sincerely believed in the power of the Serenity Prayer. She touched and helped so many people and will be truly missed by clients, colleagues, friends and family.

Special thanks to the Covid unit at St. Joseph`s hospital, nurses and doctors who were kind and compassionate during a difficult time. Due to Covid protocol the family will be having a private service and a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations made to the Catholic Family services or a charity of your choice. Online condolences can be made to www.dermodys.com
