Condolence: When I graduated from nursing in 1977 and started my nursing career at St Joes, Dr Carroll was the first doctor that made me smile, feel respected and welcomed me on to the "6 surgical team". I remember every wound dressing order with his trademark hygeol 1:20 dressings q4h. His patients loved him! And, on the many days where as a nurse you didn't know if you would make it through the shift- there was always Dr Carroll's kindness and smile that told you, you could do it. Blessings to a man who made the difference in my nursing career.

Condolence: Deepest sympathies to the family, so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. A cousin on mother's side of the family but only really met him a few years ago at a family gathering in Whitby. Fascinating man. May he rest in peace.

Condolence: Sue and family--my thoughts and prayers are with you all today..You have been blessed to have had him in your lives ,and oh the memories ..these cherished memories will be forever in your hearts and mind..I am much younger cousin from Newfoundland and was fortunate to have met Jo at a family gathering several years ago. I was able to put a face to a name I had heard so much about ...as I remember a few subsequent visits I was so impressed by his dynamic personality, his love of family and his stories regarding his early days in medicine. He was a true gentleman and I was blessed in many ways to have known for such a brief time...God Bless you all

Condolence: We had a special relationship. He was the first surgeon to give me a welcome gift wwhen I started practice at St. Joes in 1983. He was my "goto" assistant when I was active in surgery. He kept the entire O.R. enteretained and enthralled with his stories. He will be missed!

Condolence: When I first arrived at At Joseph's Hospital, as a young resident in 1967, there were two standout personalities..Dr Goldberg in Medicine, and Dr Carroll in Surgery. His​ personable style, his sense of humour, surgical competency, and caring nature are so well remembered by me. As a resident, then later as a family doctor in town, Joe was always available, a go-to resource for so many of us in the community.My condolences to his family members, and his past patients who have lost their surgeon, and friend.

Condolence: He was indeed a compassionate and superb clinician and surgeon. Always available and helpful.

He was one of the last 'group' of 'docs' at St. Joseph's Surgeon's lounge.
