FRANK, Sister Barbara, School Sister of Notre Dame (formerly Mary Clayton)

Died at Notre Dame Convent, Waterdown, Ontario on November 22, 2012 at the age of 70 and in the 51st year as a member of the Congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Predeceased by her parents Clayton and Doris (Boegel). Lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community, her relatives and friends. Sister Barbara began her teaching career at St. Anthony School, St. Catharines and St. Patrick School, Caledonia. At the following schools she had the added responsibility of principal- Sacred Heart Elementary, Walkerton, St. Mary, Elora and St. Joseph, Fergus. From 1972-1978 she taught at Notre Dame College School, Welland . After two years on staff at St. Mary’s High, Kitchener, Sister Barbara became principal of the high school from 1980-1987. Following this she served as Vice-Principal and English teacher at St. Mary’s High School, Woodstock. During her teaching years she continued her studies acquiring a B.A from St. Jerome’s College- University, M.A from McMaster University and M.Ed from University of Ottawa, OECTA Specialist Religious Education Certificate and from Boston College a Certificate of Advanced Educational Specialization.
In 2004 Sister Barbara moved to Maryhill. She tutored the Literacy Group of Waterloo Region, was Assistant Chaplain at Cambridge Memorial Hospital and was actively involved in St. Boniface Parish, Maryhill. She was a member of the Grand River New Horizons Music Band. In 2007 Sister Barbara received the Kitchener Seniors’ Award of Distinction. Ill health caused her gradually to limit her various activities and in 2011 she moved to Notre Dame Convent, Waterdown. Visitors will be received at Notre Dame Convent on Sunday, November 25 from 2:00- 4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm.Prayer service will be Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 26 at 10:30am.Interment at Notre Dame Convent Cemetery.
