A great mentor

I'm eternally grateful to Harry. He started me seriously in the music industry while I was still in graduate school

He first hired me as the young guy in the group for combo work, then in his big band, and not least when he was a contractor at Hamilton Place. This gave me the entree to work with some of the best Hamilton and Toronto musicians, supporting world-class acts.

Harry taught me a lot about how to behave on the bandstand, how to read the crowd, and most of all, by example showed me how a leader should act professionally.

He had an infectious smile, a great laugh and was always encouraging and supportive to his sidemen.

Harry was always learning - he'd pick up a new wind instrument every so often, take lessons with the best teacher around, and add another horn to his bag of tricks. He was a great example in so many waus. I hope he's playing along with the rest of those great musicians on the NIght Shift
